Nov 29, 2023: Episode 158
Your safety is our top priority, even if you're not our client!
Please take measures to protect yourself, your pets, your home & your identity. When interviewing pet sitters, request proof of background check, insurance, license, etc. Utilize access to public records if you need to. Perform your due diligence in order to stay safe. Not all people are honest or transparent with their words.
When we're booked, we invest our own time & energy into attempting to locate trustworthy care. I intentionally use the words attempt & trustworthy.
When seeking sitters for our clients, providers told us that they were indeed insured. Upon further investigation, we discovered that their personal pets had medical insurance, or that their vehicles were insured. They did not have business insurance coverage. Of course this may be a simple misunderstanding. Yet, the distinction is imperative for the potential client to know.
On other instances, businesses were representing themselves as legal entities, whereas they weren't in compliance with the state, and the companies no longer were in existence. Misrepresentation & false advertising can harm both parties.
People have misrepresented their credentials, experience, etc. We've seen people advertise that they're fear & force free, while using prong & shock collars. Others embellish their experience or skills.
Please, please be diligent with your research prior to entering into a contractual relationship. Ask your lawyer to view the contract (assuming there is a contract) before signing & agreeing to it, if you'd like. Our clients have done just this. It's always better to be safe than sorry. You're always welcome to request proof from us.
