Purchasing a Microchip Scanner May Aid Our Community

Help others ESPECIALLY when you know they can't help you in return. I purchased microchip scanners so that we can assist in reconnecting lost pets with their families. This was a nominal purchase which could very well aid our community. Oftentimes, lost pets are found in the evenings or weekends, when the humane society is closed. Many vet offices are also closed. Even if the offices are open, being able to scan for a chip yourself will save everyone time & energy, as well as minimize any potential fear, anxiety & stress that the animal may endure.

I used the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool. There are many chip service providers. Once you determine the provider, contact them via phone. They will either provide the pet parent contact info for you to contact, or they will call and email them.

We recommend having your chip scanned at your next vet visit, to ensure that it's still where it should be. They do migrate or become dislodged at times. For this reason, you should scan the entire body if you find a lost animal. In addition, contact your chip servicer to ensure that your contact details are still accurate. You may have changed your phone number or address without remembering to update the info on the chip. Save the name & number of your providers so that you're more likely to answer your phone if they call. Many people aren't aware that their pet escaped, and won't answer calls from an unknown number.

Your rescue animals may have different service providers. Some extra furry animals may take a couple scans to locate the chip. This happened with our husky rescue. The scanner read "no chip" until I manipulated her fur for the scanner to read better.
