Puppy Love!

Updated: Mar 25, 2023

Episode 25: post from Dec 2022

Warning: I'm getting sentimental.

We are able to care for sugar gliders, iguanas, ferrets, horses & more. However, canines are the vast majority of the animals we love on & care for. This is a love letter to them, as I'm reflecting during this holiday season.

Growing up, slumber parties were high on my list of fun & exciting things to do, along with water slides and beach visits. I was awarded the opportunity to spend even more quality time with some of my favorite people. We would talk, giggle, stay up too late, et cetera. Now, as adults, Keith & I have created a career which allows us the opportunity to have slumber parties on a regular basis. Yes, we call them overnights, as this is the word adults use. If we're being honest, they're slumber parties, with some responsibility thrown in. We're keeping the animals safe, monitoring their schedules, meals, meds, et cetera. However, we're awarded all the benefits. We enjoy pure quality time with the sweetest souls. Together we exercise, have adventures & conversations, share affection, play games, laugh and so much more.

I'm baffled at the numerous ways dogs assist humans. Of course, service animals are extraordinary. Yet I'm referring to the natural, untrained abilities that dogs innately have. They listen intently, help us to discover joy when our levels are depleted, and encourage us to laugh. They instinctively know when our moods are slightly off, and verify that we're safe when we're injured. They alert us to danger and immediately go into protection mode. Dogs have this uncanny ability to shake things off, which not all people have mastered yet. I could continue but it's unnecessary. The pups know how I feel, and so does everyone who loves them.
