Now Offering Sniff Spot Adventures!

Dec 1, 2023: Episode 154

Many people visit dog parks in order for their pups to run, socialize, enjoy different scents, etc.

However, there are concerns with public dog parks. We should minimize the risk of illness to our canines, but also be able to enjoy our lives with them, devoid of fear. Dog park communal water bowls may spread illness. Pet parents may have a dog who seems healthy, but simply hasn't shown symptoms yet. In this scenario, people may spread viruses unknowingly & unintentionally. Dogs have been attacked by aggressive dogs. Some pet parents & sitters bring dogs that aren't safe to the parks. Or, they drop them off & leave them unattended. Yes, this had happened in Bend. Pups who are reactive, aggressive or simply don't enjoy being around other dogs don't fit into the dog park mold. For these reasons, Sniff Spot was created. The forum has been compared to air bnb. Private homeowners rent out their fenced in backyards to dog parents, via an app. The yards may be of various sizes, with different features. Rates & rules may vary slightly. We're just starting to use these. There is a half hour gap between appointments so that your dog doesn't encounter another upon arrival or departure. Pet parents should enter & inspect the space for safety before removing their pups from the car. They should also bring their own water & dog bowl.

It shouldn't need to be stated, but you're responsible for cleaning up any dog waste, & for being respectful of the property, neighbors, etc.

Your pups should be up to date on vaccines, not be destructive, have loose stools or upset stomach, etc. The Sniff Spot option may not be perfect, as a risk for exposure to illness & disease still exists. Yet, the risk is lower than at the dog park. As of now, this seems to be the best option, as not everyone has a backyard, etc. Sits & Wiggles provides round trip transport as well as full supervision & safety monitoring by a Professional Certified Dog Trainer at a Sniff Spot. The fees for the space rental & travel are included in our rate. For an hour and a half (one hour play plus drive time) the rate is $55 for one dog, & $60 for two (from the same family & location who mesh well together).
