"Holiday time can be a curse rather than a blessing."

"Holiday time can be a curse rather than a blessing. There is no shame in seeking help. In contrast, seeking assistance is indicative of great strength." Nalina Matthews

Giving Tuesday is meant to remind us to support small businesses & nonprofit organizations. It's vitally important that give this support. It's also imperative that we give support to people who are struggling. This should be done on a regular basis in our lives.

The typical expectation is that the holidays bring joy. Friends & family gather to share quality time, gratitude, food & traditions. New memories are made while past experiences are reflected upon.

However, the holidays bring a plethora of challenges to many. Medical & mental health providers are less available, as they also take time off to be with loved ones. Loneliness is more apparent for those who are not invited to gatherings. Depression & suicidality are prominent.

Countless people are without love, warmth, peace & joy. Some are without homes, food, & protection from the harsh cold. Others may have warm homes & full bellies, but are in toxic relationships, without a foreseeable escape. Others are battling inner demons. Some may be suffering from a combination of these scenarios.

Please be mindful of those who are in survival mode. Check on your neighbors, loved ones and strangers. Be aware of the fake smile & banned response. Someone may need your help. You may be the only one who does help. We may not be able to help everyone. But everyone can help someone. Pay attention to nonverbal signals & seek assistance when necessary. Let your actions be motivated by love.
